After considerable thought and too much time, I have decided to get into the web hosting business. Finding a good web host is tough. It's not that there aren't good choices. There are simply too many choices. Should you get dedicated or shared hosting? Should you get a virtual shared host? How much space do I need? How much bandwidth will I need? What type of restrictions come with each account? Even deciding what forums to trust for web hosting advice can be a daunting decision.
It's tough enough when you know what all of these options mean, but it's nearly impossible if you don't. I have navigated these waters and would like to help. I am offering lifetime hosting for a one-time fee. This offer is only for artist portfolio websites and personal blogs.
Lifetime hosting is a big deal. It means you will not have to make recurring payments to host your site. You just pay once. This is perfect for anyone who would like their own personal dot-com but can't really justify paying a yearly or monthly amount. Artists and bands that would rather focus on their craft than deal with webhosting can purchase lifetime hosting with the link at the bottom of the page.
This offer does not include actual registration of your domain name. This is a seperate yearly expense that is outside of my control. I am working to include domain registration as an option but for now you will have to purchase your domain name seperately from a registrar such as godaddy.com. If you already have a domain name I can help you set everything up.
How can I do this? Well, I have purchased more space than I need and plan on buying another server by the end of the year. I do not plan on establishing limits on traffic or storage space but consider 2GB of space and 20GB/month of bandwidth as a general guideline. In my past experience, this is more than enough for the average site. Obviously, people who are hosting video will experience higher bandwidth usage than a photographer I will not charge extra for extensive bandwidth.
For now, I do not have any fancy legalese disclaimers. You are not allowed to use your space to host large files like DVD images or anything illegal. I have taken precautions that your data will be protected in case of disaster (e.g. a plane lands on my head) I take this offer very seriously, which is why I have first tested it with a few friends. Clearly, this plan is not for everybody but I have talked to enough people who are interested that I have decided to open up beyond my personal friends. Right now, I will accept 20 new clients for the low price of $50. I am limiting the number of clients because I don't want to overwhelm myself with support issues. The introductory price may go up for future clients. This project is still in its early stages. I am currently implementing a shopping cart but for now, clicking the "Buy Now" button below will take you to a Paypal page.
